Episode 151 Show Notes

Five legendary truck stop restaurants that fed drivers for decades have closed in the last two years.”

“Over the last couple of years, we’ve lost some real legends in the truck stop world—places that were feeding drivers the old-school way for decades.
In New York, Jim’s Truck Stop in Cheektowaga shut down in 2025. That 24-hour diner near the Galleria had been a Buffalo staple, serving up no-frills comfort food to truckers and locals all night long.
In Illinois, R-Place Family Eatery at the TA Truck Stop in Morris closed in December 2024. Folks are still talking about their huge breakfasts and those homemade baked goods.
Down in Colorado, Johnson’s Corner Restaurant in Johnstown closed its doors in January 2025 after more than seventy years. Their massive homemade cinnamon rolls were legendary—big enough to make the menu on their own.
Up in Maine, the Big Stop Restaurant in Baileyville served its last meal on Christmas Eve 2025. That place had been a lifeline near the Canadian border since the mid-eighties with solid, honest food and great desserts.
And way up in Alaska, the Hilltop Truck Stop on the Elliott Highway near Fairbanks lost its kitchen to a fire. They were famous for their pies—those ‘I Brake for Pie’ bumper stickers were everywhere.
These weren’t just truck stops. They were part of the culture. The road just got a little lonelier.”
